Match Report
With the pre-season completed, Toby Reserves hosted Leigh Town Reserves for the first game of the season. After putting in a lot of hard work during pre-season the team were eager and ready to make a strong start to the season. This was evident in the very positive start the team made. Toby Reserves were on the front foot from the get go and had several chances to take an early lead including a couple of great chances that came to their forward Peter Spicer. However, the team did not have to wait too long for their pressure to pay off as Toby Reserves went 1-0 up after 10 mins courtesy of a tidy finish from Peter in the box. The game continued much in the same vain with Toby Reserves the more dominant side, the midfield and back three putting in a solid performance. The chances continued to come including an impressive overhead kick attempt by Charlie Pritchard which wasn't far wide. The team’s persistence finally resulted in a second goal before half time for Tom Biddis who had earlier been provider for the first. As the strong tackles began to come in, there was late drama just before half time when Leigh Town Reserves had a man sent off for violent conduct after taking exception to a tackle on one of their teammates. Toby Reserves kept their heads to see out the half and it ended 2-0. The second half proved to be more of the same for Toby Reserves as they searched for the elusive third goal. The team worked hard to make their extra man count and limited the few chances their opponents had. The third goal finally came via a great corner from Josh Hales which was headed in by Graham Knight . Toby Reserves played the remainder of the game sensibly looking for chances for a fourth but mindful of keeping a clean sheet. The game ended 3-0, three points, three goals and a job well done. On to the next one. Goals: Peter Spicer, Tom Biddis, Graham Knight. MOTM: Tom Biddis
