Match Report
A hot and muggy Saturday afternoon hitting temperatures at around 30 degrees with high humidity saw Toby visit Shenfield High School where they would face West Essex Reserves from the Essex Alliance League kicking off at mid-day.
The match kicked off with Toby dominating the first 15 minutes of the match popping the ball around whilst analysing the opposition! West Essex Res took the lead after 27 mins when the ball was played through the defence to convert. Suspicion of offside? I think so!! The rest was history...
The hosts found their feet and created a couple chances of their own only for the resilience of Dom Cooper to make some important challenges. Toby's best chance before the break came through Luke Jones pressing and winning the ball high up in the field then whipping one across goal that evades Chris Rowland at the back stick.
Into the break, Mark Jones decided to shape things up with a formation change that the hosts did not get to grips with! Two quick fire goals through an MPB's block on the keepers clearance (47 mins) & then Luis Ruis's converted spot kick (50 mins) saw Toby take the lead.
With 10 minutes to go and thinking about scenarios in the upcoming season, Toby banked up to see if we can grind out the win! Although the opposition retained a lot of the ball and pushed us back, the back 4 had solidarity about them and held out for the win.
All in all, great game of football and an emphatic first pre season win registered on a hot muggy day. Plenty of ice baths taken in preparation for the following week.
